Meet the Team

We are a group of 8 high schoolers committed to bringing light to the problem that is unsupported youth housing insecurity. We have worked to compile a collection of resources from community leaders, run clothing and other resource drives, and spread our clothing pantry to other schools. Here is our team, and a little about why we joined!

Sofia Barua, Sophomore

I joined the Aspen Challenge to gain an experience, solving real world problems with a team and I wanted to create an impactful change in our community. I believe housing insecurity is a serious issue and everybody, no matter what age, deserves to have a bright future.

Chloe Keller, Sophomore

My motivation to join the Aspen Challenge team was to help out all of the unhoused youth I honestly didn't even know went to our school. When I learned how big of a problem it was, even in my community that spurred me to work with my team to try to create something to help these people out.

Skye Carmody, Freshman

I joined the Aspen Challenge because I wanted to get more involved in my community and school. Our team picked homelessness because we have a lot of unhoused students that need our help to strive throughout the rest of their lives. I really want to help unhoused teens have a stable environment at school and make their lives easier.

Lola Hallin, Freshman

I joined the Aspen Challenge to gain experience working with a team to attack an issue in the community and help a problem that San Diego is facing. I felt drawn to the homelessness challenge because the unhoused population in San Diego is very big, and it contributes to a lot of other issues such as substance abuse and pollution. I also wanted to help unhoused youth especially so that they can be set up with opportunities that aid them with getting back on their feet.

Iris Hallin, Junior

I joined the Aspen Challenge to get more involved with my campus and make a positive impact on a problem in our community. I picked homelessness because it is relevant with where I go to school and we would be able to provide help to those who need it.

Sebastian Excelente, Freshman

I joined the Aspen Challenge to be able to make an impact in the community. Homelessness has been a big challenge in San Diego which I hoped to help solve. I also wanted to be part of a group that aims to provide a safe and more permanent space for unhoused youth to feel safe and comfortable in.

Uriah GrahamDayzie, Freshman

I joined the Aspen Challenge because I want to make a difference in my community. I thought it'd be cool to make new friends and present what we've done in a different state to help them make the same changes. I chose homelessness because unhoused people make up for 6% of the USA's population.

Addison Hufft, Freshman

I joined the Aspen Challenge because my mom thought it would be good for me and I wanted to get more involved within the school community. I picked homelessness because I knew Clairemont already had great foundations to work with and I wanted to help expand the programs to other schools.
